Gophers Rank Seventh in Directors' Cup Standings

Minnesota held its top 10 spot in the Division I Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings at seventh place in the latest rankings released April 8.
The Gophers added points with their NCAA tournament appearance in men's basketball and a 14th place finish in men's swimming and diving. Minnesota has a total of 574.25 points and has earned points in 11 different sports.
Points are accumulated based on performances in NCAA tournament competition. Each sport is scored on a scale of 25-100 with the national champion receiving 100 points, the runner-up getting 90 points and each participating team receiving a minimum of 25 points for qualifying. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports - seven women's and seven men's. The Gophers' winter total of 380.25 points was the fifth-highest of all Division I schools.
Stanford leads the overall standings with 792 points, while Ohio State is second with 703 points and Florida is third with 648 points. Along with Ohio State, Minnesota is one of five Big Ten schools in the top 20 as Penn State is fourth, Wisconsin is 11th and Michigan State is 18th.
The final Division I winter sports rankings will be released on April 29.
