The Big Ten Conference announced its awardwinners for the 2010 outdoor track & field season. Athletes who garnered first and second-place finishes from last weekend’s Big Ten Championships earned first team and second team honors, respectively.

Golden Gophers who captured Big Ten titles and are accorded All-Big Ten First Team honors are Megan Duwell (10,000 meters), DeAnne Hahn (hammer) and Todea-Kay Willis. All-Big Ten Second Team honorees are Gabriele Anderson (800 and 1,500 meters), Amy Laskowske (10,000 meters) and Kylie Peterson (100 meters).

Senior Gabriele Anderson was the Minnesota recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. These student-athletes are now candidates for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, as the Conference office will honor one male and one female student-athlete from each institution at the end of the school year.

The Big Ten announced its other post-season awards. Illinois’ Angela Bizzarri was named the Track Athlete of the Year, while Penn State’s Fawn Dorr was the Track Athlete of the Championships. Indiana’s Faith Sherrill was honored as the Field Athlete of the Year and the Field Athlete of the Championships. Penn State’s Beth Alford-Sullivan was named the Coach of the Year, while Michigan’s Erin Pendleton was named the Freshman of the Year.
