24 Gopher Women Headed to NCAA Preliminary Round

The Minnesota women’s track & field team will send 24 student-athletes, including its 4x100-meter relay, to the NCAA Preliminary Rounds at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, on May 27-29. The NCAA switched post-season formats for the outdoor track championships going from four regional sites to East and West preliminary round sites. The East NCAA Preliminary Rounds will be hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
The top 12 individuals and relays from the preliminary rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships, June 9-12, at the University of Oregon.
The total of 24 athletes headed to the Preliminary Rounds is the most Minnesota has advanced into NCAA competition. The Gophers had 23 athletes compete at the Midwest Regional in 2008 and 2009.
