Gophers Clinch Share of Regular-Season Title

The Minnesota baseball team (26-27, 14-8) had its game suspended against Ohio State (27-22, 10-12) on Friday, May 21, but clinched a share of the Big Ten title with a Michigan 6-5 loss at Penn State.
At 7:29 p.m. there was a lightning strike at Bill Davis Stadium that halted the game with Ohio State leading 1-0 in the top of the second. A little under an hour later, the game was suspended, and will be picked up on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. Shortly after the Gophers boarded the bus to head back to the hotel, Penn State rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Wolverines 6-5.
With the Michigan loss, the Golden Gophers also clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament (Minnesota would win the head-to-head tiebreaker if it tied with the Wolverines). Minnesota enters the final day of the Big Ten season with a 14-8 conference record, while the Wolverines are now 13-10. With a win in one of the two remaining games, the Golden Gophers would clinch sole possession of the Big Ten regular-season championship.
Both games will be played in their entirety tomorrow. Tonight's game will be continued on Saturday, May 21 at 12:05 p.m. (CT) Following the conclusion of that game, the teams will finish the series when they play the third and final game.
