Former Golden Gopher Baseball standout Dan Wilson will walk as part of the ceremonies for the class of 2010 on Saturday, May 8.
Wilson, who will receive his Bachelor of Sciences Degree from the College of Continuing Education, will walk as part of the Graduation ceremonies at Northrop Memorial Auditorium on May 8 at 10 a.m.
"I am really excited to come back to the University of Minnesota and walk as part of the graduation ceremony," said Wilson. "My wife has been a driving force in having me finish my degree and come back to walk so this will be a very special day. I am really looking forward to coming back and sharing this experience with my family. I am also really excited to feel the energy of being on the campus at the University of Minnesota again, which is a place that holds a lot of special memories for me."
Wilson played for the Golden Gophers from 1988-1990, before he was drafted as a junior with the seventh overall pick in the First Round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Cincinnati Reds in 1990. He batted .337 in his career at Minnesota, and was named a First-Team All-American in 1990 when he batted .370 with eight home runs, 15 doubles and 49 RBI. Wilson was third-highest drafted Gopher to come out of the program behind Paul Molitor and Dave Winfield.
In 1992, Wilson made his Major League debut for the Cincinnati Reds as he batted .360 in 12 games. He played two years for the Reds before being traded to the Seattle Mariners. Wilson played for the Mariners from 1994-2005. During his career with Seattle, the Mariners made the playoffs four times including the first time in the franchise's history in 1995. He was also the starting catcher for the 2001 team that tied a Major League record for regular-season wins at 116. Wilson still holds the all-time record for highest career fielding percentage by a Major League catcher at .995.
