Duwell 12th in NCAA 10,000 Meters

Golden Gopher senior Megan Duwell placed 12th in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Wednesday. Duwell clocked a career-best time of 33 minutes, 40.94 seconds, the second-fastest 10K in Minnesota history.
Duwell, the Big Ten champion, chopped over 20 seconds off her career best time. The race was only her fourth career 10,000-meter outing.
Iowa State’s Lisa Koll broke away from the field with seven laps remaining and cruised to the victory in a time of 32:49.35, 24 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Gopher junior Nikki Tzanakis made her NCAA Championships debut in the discus placing 15th with a throw of 155 feet, 7 inches. Tzanakis landed her best effort on her third attempt of the prelims. Southern Illinois’ Jeneva McCall won the event with a throw of 180-4.
