The top five finishers automatically qualified for the final. Running in the faster of the two qualifying heats, Anderson positioned herself on the rail in third place as the bell sounded for the final lap. She moved to the outside shoulder of leader Washington’s Katie Follett on the backstretch. Anderson held her position in the final 50 meters and was able to ease up at the finish line with a top-five finish accomplished.

SUNY Stonybrook junior Lucy Van Dalen sprinted to the win in a time of 4:13.19, the fastest qualifying time heading into the final. Anderson owns the second-fastest qualifying time.

CBS will televise a block on Saturday (12-2 p.m. CT) live from the Championships. The women’s 1,500-meter run final is scheduled for 12:18 p.m. CT. Anderson is the only Gopher woman still in action at the meet.

Gopher junior Nikki Swenson also competed in the 1,500 meters. Swenson finished 11th in her heat and 21st overall with a time of 4:28.23.
