Minnesota Alumni in the Pros

The Minnesota baseball program has several players who are currently performing well in the professional ranks in their respective organizations.

Kyle Knudson and Seth Rosin, who were both drafted in early June are both off to strong starts. Knudson is batting .346 (9-for-26) with five runs and three RBI in his first six games with the Rookie League Elizabethton Twins. Rosin is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and has five strikeouts in four innings of work for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (San Francisco Giants) of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League. Michael Kvasnicka homered in his first game with the Tri-City Valley Cats (Houston Astros) in the Class A Short-Season New York Penn League. Kvasnicka has drawn 10 walks and scored five runs in his 11 games.

The Golden Gophers have three players currently at the Triple A level in Jack Hannahan (Seattle Mariners), John Gaub (Chicago Cubs) and Glen Perkins (Minnesota Twins). Gaub is currently 3-2 with three saves a 4.33 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 27.0 innings pitched for the Iowa Cubs. He is tied for the team lead with 27 appearances.

Reid Mahon is 2-2 with a 2.63 ERA and three saves in 27.1 innings of work for the Mobile BayBears (Arizona Diamondbacks) of Double A Southern League. Mahon has made 20 appearances for the BayBears this season. Cole DeVries has made 22 appearances for the New Britain Rock Cats in the Double A Eastern League this season. DeVries and Mahon have both made it as high as Triple A for their respective clubs.

Nate Hanson, Dan Lyons and Derek McCallum are all at the Single A level. Hanson has batted .341 with 14 hits and five runs in his last 10 games. He has a hit in all 10 of those contests.

Former Golden Gopher Robb Quinlan is also currently playing for the second-place Los Angeles Angels at the Major League level. Quinlan has been at the Major League level for the Angels since 2003 and has a .276 career batting average.
