Deutsch Joins 'U' Athletic Communications Staff

University of Minnesota alum Brian Deutsch has been selected to join the Minnesota Athletic Department as the athletic communications assistant, director of athletic communications Garry Bowman announced on Tuesday.
Deutsch, who will serve as the primary media contact for the Gophers' wrestling, softball and women's soccer programs, began his tenure at Minnesota on Monday.
"We are really excited to have Brian join our team," Bowman said. "He has a strong skill set from his experience working both as a print journalist and an athletics department staffer and we think he will do an excellent job for his assigned sports, the media and our office."
A 2010 graduate of the University of Minnesota, Deutsch spent the last year working as an undergraduate assistant with the Gophers' football office, where he worked in a multitude of administrative roles. His primary responsibilities included maintaining the team's online communication and assisting with the team's communications efforts for recruiting and alumni relations.
"I am very excited to be joining the athletic communications staff at the University of Minnesota," Deutsch said. "Graduating from the 'U' and working around the athletic department have proven to me that this is one of the top institutions in the country, and I am looking forward to starting my professional career as a member of the Gopher family."
Deutsch began working in sports media at the Minnesota Daily, serving as a beat writer and later as assistant sports editor. From 2006 to 2009, Deutsch covered nearly every athletics program at Minnesota including the Gophers' football and men's hockey beats. While serving as the assistant sports editor, Deutsch was also in charge of managing the sports department and assisting in the editing process.
A native of Luverne, Minn., Deutsch has served on staffs for the 2009 U.S. Pond Hockey Championships, the 2010 NCAA Women's Frozen Four and the 2010 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey West Regional.
