Minnesota junior righthander Seth Rosin (Shoreview, Minn.) was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 138th overall pick in fourth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday, June 8.
Rosin was the highest selected Minnesota pitcher since Glen Perkins who was picked in the first round in 2004. With Kvasnicka going in the Compensatory round after the first round and Rosin going in the fourth, it is the first time the Golden Gophers have had two players selected in the first four rounds since Brian Denman was picked in the first round of the January draft and Jerry Ujdur was picked in the fourth round in 1978.
It is also the first time a Golden Gopher has been selected by the San Francisco Giants since Bryan Guse was selected by the organization in the 23rd round in 1997.
Rosin finished the season 9-4 with a 4.72 ERA and struck out 95 batters in 103.0 innings. The nine wins tied for the 10th-best by a Gopher pitcher in a single-season. His 103.0 innings were also the sixth-most in a single-season by a Minnesota pitcher, and his 95 strikeouts were the fifth-highest total in a season.
This year, Rosin became the first Golden Gopher hurler since Glen Perkins to claim All-Big Ten honors in consecutive seasons since Glen Perkins did so in 2003-04. Rosin was named Second-Team All-Big Ten in 2009 and this season. In conference play, Rosin finished second in strikeouts (49), tied for second in wins (5) and seventh innings pitched (52.2). He was also ninth in walks per nine innings in the nation heading into the NCAA Regionals.
