Blog: Gophers Arrive in Chicago

The Gopher football contingent has arrived in Chicago for Big Ten Football Media Days. For the first time, the two-day event is being held at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in downtown Chicago. In addition to head coach Tim Brewster, Minnesota is represented by three of its four captains - Adam Weber, Kim Royston and Brandon Kirksey.

I had the responsibility of driving the three players to the airport and then getting them to the hotel. I was looking forward to seeing Kim for a couple of reasons. First, his presence in Chicago was a good sign regarding his recovery from his broken leg suffered during spring ball. Second, we could swap stories since I had also broken my leg in late January. He said he was able to start walking in just a few weeks, while I was on crutches for over 12 weeks. I guess two hours a day, six days a week in the training room will do that for you. Neither one of us set off the metal detector at the airport so that was a good start to the trip.

This is Adam's second trip to the league's media days after attending as a sophomore in 2008. You'll see plenty of players from around the league make back to back trips to this event, but it's rare when you see a sophomore here.

The festivities kick off tomorrow. Minnesota caught a break in the rotation as some teams will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday morning. The Golden Gophers' first media event will be interviews with ESPN GameDay, the Big Ten Network and CBS at 12:15 p.m.

Coach Brewster will step to the podium with all of the print media tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. You can watch that session live on the Big Ten Network. Following that, Coach and the players will meet the television stations in attendance.

After interviews with Sirius Radio, the players will be excused for the day, while Coach Brewster will meet with the Big Ten Network to film this year's commercial (Watch the 2008 commercial).
