The Minnesota baseball program held the 14th annual Dan Morgan Open on Tuesday, Aug. 3.
Andy Hunter, Jim Hunter, Mason Swenson and Joel Metz won the scramble with a score of 51. Mike Anderson, Harvey Maki, Charlie Braniff and Wayne LaBine finished second with a score of 56, while Jason Kennedy, Rob LaRue, Chris Guetzlaff and Josh Holthaus finished third with a score of 57. The team of Joe Kordosky, Steve Comer, Steve Shimek and Ken Herbst were named the Dianne Ficenko All-Stars of the Dan Morgan Open.
"Today was a wonderful day all the way around," said Minnesota Head Coach John Anderson. "Anytime you can gather all these great former Golden Gopher players, staff and supporters of the program it always makes for a fun day. I think it is very productive to keep the bond strong between all of the supporters of Gopher Baseball, and this day went a long way in continuing to do that."
The event is named after Dan Morgan, a First-Team All-American pitcher in 1977, who passed away on May 31, 1996. Former teammates have launched this annual event to raise funds for the University of Minnesota Baseball program in his memory since 1997.
Golden Gopher Baseball Director of Baseball Operations captured some of the action, and gathered soundbytes of former Gopher players regarding the tournament and their memories of Dan Morgan.
