Gophers In The Pros

The National Football League regular season got under way over the last week with former Gophers scattered around the league. NFL teams featuring Minnesota alumni went 5-2 to begin the year.
- Barber III, Marion - RB - Dallas Cowboys
Barber led the Cowboys in rushing with 39 yards on eight rushing attempts with a long of 12 yards against the Washington Redskins. Barber also caught two passes for one yard and attempted one pass.
- White, Stylez G. - DE - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
White began his fourth season with the Buccaneers with five tackles, including three solo tackles against the Browns.
- Spaeth, Matt - TE - Pittsburgh Steelers
The fourth-year Steeler got the start against Atlanta, but did not record any statistics.
- Hamilton, Ben - G - Seattle Seahawks
In his 10th professional season, and first with the Seahawks, Hamilton saw playing time at guard against San Francisco.
- Decker, Eric - WR - Denver Broncos
The Broncos rookie played but did not acquire any statistics against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- Barber, Dominique - S - Houston Texans
The third-year pro played but did not record any statistics against the Indianapolis Colts.
- Laurence Maroney - RB - New England Patriots
Maroney was inactive for Sunday's match-up against the Bengals due to a thigh injury.
Update: The Patriots announced Tuesday that they have traded Maroney to the Denver Broncos for an undisclosed draft pick.
A pair of former Gophers also had significant impacts for their respective teams in week 11 of the Canadian Football League.
- Bruce III, Arland - WR - Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Bruce had four receptions for 81 yards, including one for 57 yards for the Tiger-Cats against Montreal.
- Middlebrooks, Willie - DB - Toronto Argonauts
Middlebrooks had two tackles for the Argonauts against British Columbia.
In addition to those who were on active rosters, three former Gophers spent last weekend on the practice squad for their respective NFL teams. Marcus Sherels and Logan Payne are on the practice squad for the Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile, Traye Simmons is with the San Diego Chargers' practice squad.
