The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team is wasting no time in preparing for the upcoming season, which opens January 8, 2011 with the Alumni Meet at the Sports Pavilion.

Despite knowing that the regular season is over three months away, the Gophers know that they need to put in as much hard work as possible right now to ensure a successful season ahead.

The Gophers finished their second week of practice on Friday with the athletes honing in on specific skills for their various events.

While the gymnasts looked exhausted at times due to the extensive training they have put in over the last couple of weeks, the Gophers also appeared in high spirits as the entire team continues to support one another as they all work to improve.

"When you're doing a routine and you're struggling and then you start hearing the guys cheering for you," senior Travis Heaver said. "It really pumps you up and gives you that second wind and helps you finish."
