Maroon Defeats Gold 6-2 on Family Day

The Maroon squad jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Gold with a 6-2 victory on Family Day on Saturday, Sept. 25.

Sophomore Ethan Liederman (Queens, N.Y.), freshman Matt Halloran (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and junior Trip Schultz (Forest Lake, Minn.) each had multi-hit games for the Maroon team. Liederman went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and three RBI. Schultz was also 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Halloran was 3-for-4. Troy Larson (Maplewood, Minn.) also reached base three times and was 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base, while Nick O'Shea (Blaine, Minn.) was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Billy Soule (Hamel, Minn.) also knocked in a run for the Maroon team.

The Maroon squad got solid outings from their pitching staff. Freshman D.J. Snelten (Ingelside, Ill.) started and pitched two shutout innings with four strikeouts. Alex Tukey (San Diego, Calif.) also pitched two shutout innings gave up two hits and struck out three. TJ Oakes (Jordan, Minn.) relieved Snelten with one scoreless inning and picked up the win. Kyle O'Shea (Blaine, Minn.) also pitched one shutout inning.

The Gold team was led by Justin Gominsky (Mahtomedi, Minn.) who reached base twice, had a double and was 1-for-3 with an RBI. JT Canakes (Eden Prairie, Minn.) reached base three times, and was 1-for-3 with a run. Freshman Kyle Crocker (Brainerd, Minn.) went 1-for-3 with a run and reached base twice, while Michael Handel (Sun Prairie, Wis.) went 1-for-3 and reached base twice.

Freshman Tom Windle (Maple Grove, Minn.) started and pitched two shutout innings for the Gold squad. Phil Isaksson (Eau Claire, Wis.) also pitched one shutout inning. Scott Fern (Eau Claire, Wis.) took the loss, as he gave up three runs in the fourth inning. Cullen Sexton (Plover, Wis.), Kevin Kray (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Scott Matyas (North Prairie, Wis.) also pitched one shutout inning apiece.

The second game of the Steak N' Beans Series will take place on Friday, Oct. 1 at 3:30 p.m. in Siebert Field
