Gophers Place Eighth at Golfweek Challenge

After recording the second lowest 54-hole team total in program history during their first event of the season, the Gophers continued their success this week with an eight place finish at the 18 team Golfweek Challenge in Colorado. Minnesota carded rounds of 298, 306, and 296 to finish with a team total of 900(+36).
Senior Michele Edlin led the team on Tuesday with an one-under par 71 in the final round, earning her a fourth place finish in the tournament with a career low total of 217. Edlin’s performance also ranks as the third lowest three round total in the history of Gopher women’s golf.
Senior Teresa Puga just missed the top 10 with an even par 72 on Tuesday, finishing the tournament in a tie for 11th place. Mary Narzisi tied for 30th after a final round 73, sophomore Jackie Shepherd finished in a tie for 53rd, and Senior Samantha Sommers tied for 73rd place in the standings.
With their finish, Minnesota continues to post significant scores. This week’s score of 900 is the seventh lowest 54-hole total in program history.
Led by medalist Brittany Altomare with 54-hole total of 213, Virginia took home the tournament victory with a three round total of 877 (287-303-287) to defeat Arizona by five strokes. Tulane ( 889) finished third by two strokes over second round leader UC Davis (891), while Tennessee ended in fifth at 894.
Tulane’s Janine Fellow finished one stroke behind Altomare as individual runner up, besting second round leader, Denver’s Therese Koelbaek, who took home third.
The Gophers are off until Oct. 11th when they travel to Chicago, Ill to participate in the Lady Northern.
