Dance Team, Goldy Win National Titles

The University of Minnesota spirit squads lit up the 2011 UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando over the weekend, turning in one it best overall performances in competition history.
For the second straight year, the Gophers’ dance team placed first in both in the jazz and pom divisions, a stunning achievement that made a huge statement about the squad’s consistency.

Goldy Gopher also posted an outstanding routine to win the mascot title for the first time. After taking third in last year's competition, the precocious rodent took his performance to new level to capture this year's national title.

The Gophers Gold squad also turned in a strong effort to place third in the All-Girl Division, while the Maroon team suffered a bit of bad luck with an out-of-bounds deduction but still finished a respectable 12th in the Co-Ed Division.

Teams from 45 states and 155 universities and colleges competed in the 2011 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship, which celebrated its 27th year of competition.
