Micah Hegerle Lands Big Ten Weekly Award

Minnesota thrower Micah Hegerle was named the Big Ten Field Event Athlete of the Week after winning the weight throw with a career-best effort at the Minnesota Open last Saturday. A Dodge Center, Minn., native, Hegerle landed a throw of 66 feet, 2 1/4, the fifth-best throw in Golden Gopher history.

The award is Hegerle’s first of the 2010 season and second of his Minnesota career.

The Gophers play host to the Jack Johnson Classic on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 21-22.
