Minnesota Baseball Begins Practice on Jan. 28

The Minnesota baseball team will have its first full squad practice of the spring semester on Friday, Jan. 28 at the Nagurski Complex.

Minnesota will open the 2011 season on Feb. 19 against St. John's, who is No. 23 in the Preseason Baseball America Top 25,  in Clearwater, Fla. at 12 p.m. (CT). The Gophers will also face No. 9 UConn on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. (CT) in Clearwater, Fla. and Louisville on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. (CT).

Minnesota returns 24 players who played on last year's team that won the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles, before advancing to the final game of the NCAA Regionals against Cal State Fullerton. The returning players are highlighted by First-Team All-Big Ten first baseman Nick O'Shea, Second-Team All-Big Ten starting pitcher Phil Isaksson, Third-Team All-Big Ten closer Scott Matyas and Freshmen and Third-Team All-Big Ten starting pitcher TJ Oakes.
