2011 Preview: Floor Exercise

1/3/2011 12:00:00 AM | Men's Gymnastics

The Gophers men's gymnastics team comes into the 2011 season with only one returning competitor on the floor exercise, that being junior Adam LaFleur. He will be counted on heavily for Minnesota this year in this event, and enters the year with some solid success, including recording a season-best score of 15.050 twice last season on the floor exercise.

"We lost a lot of firepower on the floor exercise, but these incoming freshmen have a lot to offer," Minnesota head coach Burns said. "LaFleur will be our top returning tumbler, and then for freshmen we will be looking to Matt Frey who has a lot power, Zach Chase who is a twisting, flipping machine and Adam Kern who has really been turning on in the floor exercise."

Another first-year competitor who is expected to compete strongly on the floor exercise is sophomore Josh Wokurka who missed all of last season due to injury, but has shown a lot of promise on the event. Sophomore Harris Coleman is also expected to compete in the floor exercise and was able to score 15.050 three times last year.

Junior DJ Repp is another dark horse in the event for the Gophers, who are hoping he will become a key contributor on the floor exercise after sitting out the event in 2010.

The floor exercise will be an event to monitor all season for the Gophers as they wait to see who steps up behind LaFleur to provide a spark for the team.
