The Gophers are playing in their third straight fall tournament this weekend, this time at Northwestern's Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill. The three-day event began Friday and concludes Sunday. In addition to Minnesota and Northwestern, it features participants from Michigan State, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Western Michigan, Illinois-Chicago, DePaul and Oklahoma.

There are four flights in singles and two in doubles. Seven Gophers made the trip and are all competing in singles, while six participated in doubles.

Freshmen Aria Lambert and junior Doron Muravnik had the best day for the Gophers as each went 2-0 in singles to advance to the semifinals of the third flight.

Lambert defeated a pair of Big Ten foes to advance. She dropped Wisconsin senior Lauren Gruber 6-3, 6-3 in the first round and then claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win versus Iowa's Ally Majercik. Lambert will contest South Carolina junior Adriana Pereira in the semifinals.

Muravnik needed three sets to fell Carolin Neumann from DePaul in the first round, but then cruised to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-1 win against UIC's Teona Tsertsvadze. Muravnik will face South Carolina's Dina Guzairova in the semifinals.

If Lambert and Muravnik both win they would be scheduled to face one another in the final.

Following the tournament at Northwestern, the Gophers next event will be the Oct. 20-24 Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
