Minnesota sophomores Tess Behrens and Maggie Keefer swept the Big Ten weekly swimming and diving awards Tuesday, as Behrens was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and Keefer was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week after leading the Gophers to a conference-victory over Michigan last weekend.
Behrens earned her first-career league honor after placing first in five events at the dual meet vs. the Wolverines. Behrens set Minnesota vs. Michigan meet records in both the 100-yard backstroke and as part of the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.42), while her 100-yard backstroke time of 54.02 was also a NCAA provisional-qualifying mark and ranks fourth all-time at Minnesota. Behrens also earned wins in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.74), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:24.00), and 400-yard medley relay (3:44.82).
Keefer garnered her second-career Diver of the Week award, and the first of the season, by winning the title in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. On Friday evening, Keefer posted a NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark of 313.35 in the 1-meter event, a mark that also ranks third all-time at Minnesota. The sophomore then posted her second qualifying mark of the weekend in the 3-meter event Saturday afternoon with a score of 304.20.
