The Minnesota women's golf team finished 12th at the Lady Northern Invitational at the Donald Ross Course. Sophomore Banchalee Theinthong recorded the team's best finish, tying for 18th place.
Theinthong entered the day tied for eighth, but had a tough final round, shooting an 8-over 79. Her 18th-place finish is still the second best for any Gopher this fall. Theinthong's 54-hole total was 227 (+14).
Jackie Shepherd tied for 47th place at +25, with a final round of 77. For the tournament, Sarinee Thitiratanakorn (t-50th) followed one shot behind Shepherd with a total of 239. Carmen Laguna (242, t-56th) and Aubrie Nelson (t-59th) were also separated by one stroke. Nelson posted the team's lowest round today, with a 76. Taylor Quinn finished in a tie for 61st golfing as an individual.
The Golden Gophers' team score was 939 (+87). Central Florida won the team title with a 35-over total of 887. The Knights fired off a 5-over-par final round. Ohio State beat Michigan in a close battle for second. Individually, Michigan's Meagan Bauer captured medalist honors by finishing even-par for the tournament.
Minnesota will have another chance to compete in French Lick in the spring, when Indiana plays host to the Big Ten Championships. Meanwhile, the Gophers have some time off before their next event, the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Oct. 30 through Nov. 1.
