Gophers Close Out Fall Season

Although the Steak 'N Beans series was already decided last week with a pair of Maroon wins, the Golden Gopher baseball team completed the fall season with one last game on Oct. 14 at Siebert Field. In the last game, the fall rosters were altered and the new incentive for the winning team? A Dairy Queen Dilly Bar. The Gold Team walked away with the cool treat and the win, 7-2, over the Maroon Team to close out fall action.
Andy Henkemeyer knocked in two of Gold's seven runs and went 1-4 with a double. Kurt Schlangen and Kyle Geason each went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Trip Schultz also went 2-4 with an RBI. Matt Puhl also produced a run, RBI and went 1-4 with a double. Also getting on base for the Gold Team was Dan Olinger (went 1-4), Michael Handel (1-3), J.T. Canakes (1-4), while Troy Larson walked and a run.
Ty McDevitt earned the Gold win when he pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, walked two and struck out two. Kyle O'Shea allowed two runs in 2.1 innings worked, while Kevin Kraty and Ben Meyer each pitched two scoreless innings.
The Maroon Team was led by Bobby Juan, who went 2-2, had an RBI and a double. Juan also pitched for the second-straight game, playing both right field and holding the Gold Team scoreless in one inning pitched. Ryan Abrahamson also had a double, an RBI and a run. Jake Bergren went 1-3 and a walk.
TJ Oakes started the game for Maroon and went two innings to face seven batters. He allowed two hits and one earned run. DJ Snelten relieved Oakes and also pitched two innings and allowed three runs, one of which was earned. Dustin Klabunde allowed one hit in two innings and held Maroon scoreless, while Alex Tukey faced a game-high 10 batters and allowed two earned runs.
In the fall season, Olinger had tied for the most at bats with a .357 batting average, while Handel had 28 at bats and an average of .321, while Geason was .333 in 27 plate appearances and Schlangen was .346 in 26 at bats. Matt Halloran had a team-high seven RBI, while Geason, Henkemeyer and Canakes all had six RBI.
On the mound, Oakes pitched 10.2 innings and held an earned run average of 2.53, while Austin Lubinsky pitched 8.1 and 3.24 ERA. Tom Windle did not allow a run in 7.2 innings pitched and struck out a team-best 12. Drew Ghelfi had two saves.
