The Minnesota women's swimming and diving team returns to the University Aquatic Center Friday to compete against non-conference foe Kansas, with events set to get underway at 4 p.m.
"We are looking forward to competing back in our home pool on Homecoming weekend," head women's coach Terry Nieszner said. "Kansas is strong in the sprint frees and both the 100 and 200 butterfly events, and they are always strong in relays, so it should be a great meet. The Golden Gophers are ready to compete."
The Gophers have tremendous momentum heading into the meet against the visiting Jayhawks, as they defeated Iowa State, 199-100, on the road last weekend with 13 victories, which included four meet record and three NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks. The win improved Minnesota's record to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Big Ten action.
Sophomore Maggie Keefer tallied two of the Gophers' three NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks with scores of 305.92 and 294.90 in 1-meter and 3-meter diving, respectively, at Iowa State to earn her second-consecutive Big Ten Diver of the Week accolade.
The Golden Gophers' freshmen class also had a lot to do with victory over the Cyclones, as seven of the team's 13 wins were posted by a rookie.
Kansas enters the meet with a 0-1 record after falling to Arizona, 170-80, last weekend in the desert.
Following the meet vs. the Jayhawks, the Golden Gophers will host their Alumni Reception at the University Hotel Minneapolis beginning at 6 p.m.
