Gophers Complete Coaching Staff with Nadine Muzerall

Head coach Brad Frost has announced that former Gopher women's hockey player Nadine Muzerall will join the Minnesota coaching staff. Muzerall, who played for Minnesota from 1997-2001, has been involved in hockey since leaving the University of Minnesota, and is taking on her first coaching job in the college ranks. She will join the team in Bemidji this weekend as the No. 2 Gophers take on Bemidji State.
"As an alum, I feel a tremendous pride in being given the opportunity to coach college hockey at the University of Minnesota," said Muzerall. "There couldn't be a better place for me to coach a game I love, for a team I have honored since the beginning, with coaches for whom I have the utmost respect, and in a place I have felt as home since I was 18."
"I am thrilled that Nadine will be coming back to the `U'," said Frost. "She will be a great addition to our staff and program. Nadine brings a wealth of experience both as a player and coach. Our players will love learning from her as she brings a tremendous passion for Gopher hockey and the University of Minnesota. Nadine left her mark on this program as a player, and I am excited for her to make lasting memories now as a coach."
Most recently, Muzerall played for Hockey Club Lugano in Switzerland. She spent two years playing for the professional team, where she was a first line forward and the team leader in points and goals. Her team won the Swiss National Championship and advanced to the European Cup, where they won a bronze medal.
Previous to her professional playing experience, Muzerall was a teacher and hockey coach at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Mt. Hermon, Mass., from 2002 to 2009. She served as the head coach of the girls' varsity hockey program, where her duties included team practice, game preparation, national and international recruiting, tournament management, and college placement. In 2009, she was named the Northfield Mount Hermon Coach of the Year. Muzerall was also a physical education teacher where she designed and taught classes such as personal fitness, strength training and yoga.
Since 2008, Muzerall has coached at the Hill Hockey Clinic in Newburyport, Mass., where she instructed players on skating fundamentals and Russian style to increase power. She also led off-ice training, including strength, power and speed drills.
Muzerall has a wealth of experience coaching at hockey camps and clinics. In 2007, she coached at the Digit Murphy Hockey Camp at Brown University in Providence, R.I. In 2005 and 2007, she was a camp director at the Florida Hockey Camp in Orlando, Fla., where she was responsible for on-ice and dry land training for 40 players. As a Gopher hockey player, Muzerall collected many awards and honors. She was a two-time All-American, earning the honor in 1998 and 2000. She was also named the Team MVP in those seasons. Muzerall was a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award as a freshman in 1998 and again in her senior year, 2001. She was the recipient of the Ridder Endowed Scholarship in 1998.
During Muzerall's tenure, the Gophers won the AWCHA National Championship in 2000 and the WCHA Championship in 2001. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2000 National Championship.
She is still Minnesota's all-time career goals leader with 139 and the career leader in goals per game with 1.08. As a junior in 2000, she led the nation in goals, power play goals, power play points and game-winning goals. She graduated as the
In 2007, Muzerall was inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame at the University of Minnesota. She was the first female hockey player and youngest athlete to be inducted in the Hall of Fame. Her hockey gloves are currently on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario.
"I have so much to learn from Brad [Frost] and Joel [Johnson] with their experience and wealth of knowledge of the game," said Muzerall.
