The Golden Gopher women's golf team will close out its fall season at the Alamo Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio. The event runs from Sunday through Tuesday, with 18 holes each day. Live results will be available at golfstat.com.
Minnesota's travel squad is comprised of Jackie Shepherd, Banchalee Theinthong, Sarinee Thitiratanakorn, Carmen Laguna, and Taylor Quinn, who had the top five scores during the team's qualifier. Anna Laorr, competing as an individual, will also play in her first college event. Theinthong currently leads the team with a 75.66 stroke average. She and Shepherd each have a top-20 finish on the season.
"I think there are some players on this team that can probably finish pretty well in this event, so I'm excited to see that," head coach Michele Redman said.
The course: Briggs Ranch Golf Club is a par-72, playing at 6,272 yards. Redman's take: "The last two courses have been set up very difficult. I think this week, it's going to be a little bit more fair."
The field: Besides Minnesota and host Texas-San Antonio, the tournament field consists of Baylor, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Missouri State, Nebraska, New Mexico State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, and UCF. TCU won both the team and individual titles last year, with Brooke Beeler taking medalist honors.
Notes: Quinn will become the fifth Gopher to make her collegiate debut during the 2011 fall season…the Golden Gophers' next event will be Feb. 12-14 when they travel to Sorrento, Fla., for the UCF Challenge.
