The Golden Gophers' score at the Alamo Invitational yesterday was their lowest of the season so far. They matched that score today, and also reached another milestone when two players posted under-par second rounds. The Gophers are in 11th place heading into the final round, with a 36-hole score of 602.
Before this tournament, no Minnesota golfer had turned in an 18-hole score better than even par. Banchalee Theinthong (71) and Jackie Shepherd (70) changed that today. Theinthong (t-26th) made three birdies to two bogeys, bringing her tournament total score to 147 (+3). Shepherd started her round with a bogey, but birdied three holes to finish 2-under on the day with her lowest score of the season. She is 5-over after two rounds. Carmen Laguna, Sarinee Thitiratanakorn, and TaylorQuinn all posted rounds of 80 today. Golfing as an individual, Anna Laorr shot a 79.
The Gophers' score of 602 puts them at 26-over for the tournament. Nebraska, the only other Big Ten team in the field, leads the competition at 574 (-2) after a tournament-record 280 today. Hayley Davis of Baylor and Monifa Sealy of UCF share the lead, each with a score of 140 (-4).
Tee times for the final round begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Live results will be available at golfstat.com.
