The Big Ten Conference has announced the end of the season awards for women's cross country. Sophomore Laura Docherty was named to the Sportsmanship Award List for 2011.
Docherty, who is a native of St. Paul, Minn., has raced in five races for the Gophers this season. Her best finish on a 6k course came at this past weekend's Big Ten Championships after she covered the course in 21:29. It was Docherty's personal best in her two year career.
Other performances this season for the sophomore were a seventh place finish at the Oz Memorial (22:39) and fifth place at the South Dakota State Invitational (17:44), which was a 5k course.
To be named to this list, student-athletes were chosen as individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The student-athlete must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
