Box Score

Despite getting a double-double from junior Katie Loberg, the University of Minnesota women's basketball team fell to Quinnipiac, 64-62, on a last-second basket Friday afternoon at the St. Mary's Concord Hilton Tournament in Moraga, Calif.

The Gophers conclude play in the event Saturday vs. Virginia Tech, with tip off set for 7:00 p.m. CT.

Loberg finished the contest with 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds to record the second double-double of her career and her first since her rookie campaign when she tallied 10 point and 11 rebounds vs. Michigan State on Feb. 28, 2010.

The Gophers (3-3) led by as many as five points in the second half, and held a three-point advantage with just over a minute to play in the contest. But, a three-point play by Quinnipiac (2-2) at 40 seconds evened the contest for the 12th time of the game, before Jasmine Martin's last-second basket with 1.9 seconds to play cost Minnesota the win.

Freshman Rachel Banham and senior Kiara Buford also scored in double figures, with Banham posting 12 points, to go along with six rebounds, four steals and three assists. Buford's 10 points, all of which came in the second half, extended her streak of double-digit performances to six games.

Sophomore Sari Noga had a good day on the boards, coming in just behind Loberg with a career-best nine rebounds, while adding six points and a steal. Senior Jackie Voigt was the Gophers' most productive player off of the bench, tallying eight points, four rebounds and also drawing a pair of charges in 24 minutes on the floor.

Minnesota headed into the locker room at half time with a 34-31 advantage. Loberg had already registered her double-double with an impressive performance in the opening stanza, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Banham also added double-digit scoring in the first half with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor.

But, the Maroon and Gold got off to a slow start in the second half, not scoring a point through the first 4:11 of the stanza. Banham finally scored at 15:49 to give the lead back to the Gophers, 36-35, and start a 6-2 run for the squad, which included a layup by Micaëlla Riché and a pair of free throws from Leah Cotton.

Quinnipiac once again evened the score, 42-42, with 11:49 to play, and from that point on, the two teams tied the score six more times before Martin's game-winning jumper closed out the contest.
