Three University of Minnesota women's soccer players have been named Second Team Academic All-District 5 selections by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Junior Allie Phillips, redshirt sophomore Steph Brandt and sophomore Lauren Bauer received the prestigious honors on Sunday afternoon.

In order to be nominated for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete must: hold a 3.3 grade-point average or better; be a sophomore in eligibility; have completed at least one academic year at the institution; be a starter or key contributor to the team.

Phillips started 13-of-20 games this fall for the Gophers and tallied four points (one goal, two assists) as a midfielder. The junior lone goal on the 2011 season was a game-winner in the Maroon and Gold's 1-0 victory over Northwestern. The Vadnais Heights, Minn. native is majoring in Biology.

Brandt played in 16 matches with 15 starts but had her season cut short, due to a leg injury. The redshirt sophomore tallied one assist on the season and was a staple in the midfield for the Gophers. She is from Rochester, Minn. and is majoring in Biology.

Bauer was a mainstay on the backline for Minnesota, who notched five shutouts on the season. The Kinesiology major recorded three assists on the season and started all 21 matches. The sophomore transitioned from the midfield to defender this year and is from Eagan, Minn.

This season is the most Maroon and Gold soccer players to be recognized as an Academic All-District honoree in a single year. Including Phillips, Brandt and Bauer, the Golden Gophers have now had 13 players receive the accolade.
