Floor exercise is always an exciting event in men's gymnastics. It consists of a series of tumbling passes and strength skills performed to demonstrate power, flexibility, and balance.

Being the first event of every home meet, the floor exercise gives the team an opportunity to start off with some big scores.

Minnesota finished sixth in the 2011 team standings for floor exercise. They were led by Zack Chase, who finished ranked 16th in the nation. Three other Gophers (Adam LaFleur, DJ Repp, and Josh Wokurka) finished the season ranked in the top 30.

The Gophers had some excellent performances on the floor last season. Zack Chase was a finalist on the event at the Big Ten Championships as a freshman.

At the NCAA championships, both DJ Repp and Adam LaFleur qualified to compete in the second round. DJ Repp scored a career high 15.100 on the second day of competition.

The team is happy to have Chase, Repp, and LaFleur returning to the lineup this year. Look for sophomore Adam Kern to make an impact as well.

That leaves two spots in the lineup still open. With seven incoming freshmen this year, the team may have to rely on some young talent.

"The floor exercise is a pretty strong event for us," head coach Mike Burns said. "We're looking forward to some big scores out of our guys this year."
