Gophers Host Alumni Game

The group was broken up into two teams. On the Gold Team was Sarma (Pone) Ozmen ( 1997-00, 02), Kelli Blankenship (2006-10), Jaimie Horton (2006-10) , Kris Scholz (1997-01), Brittany Francis (2006-10), Jenelle Philipczyk (2004-08), Laura Slominski (1998-2002), Michelle Maunu (2006-10) and Kim Hanlon (2005-09). On the Maroon Team was Chelsey (Brodt) Rosenthal (2002-06), Winny (Brodt) Brown (1998-00, 03), Krissy (Wendell) Pohl (2002-05), Krista Johnson (2002-06), Kelsey (Bills) Nowak (2000-04), Ceci Retelle ((2000-03), Natalie Darwitz (2002-05), Allie Sanchez (2002-06), Julie (Otto) Greely (1997-98) , Jody Horak (2002-05) and Sarah Harms (1997-98).
Although the Gold Team jumped ahead, the Maroon Team battled back. As first-ever team captain, Julie (Otto) Greely on the bench said, it takes the Maroon Team a while to get going, but we’re getting there! With the game tied in the last few minutes, Sarma (Pone) Ozmen scored on a penalty shot to win the game.
Some other highlights of the game: Krissy (Wendell) Pohl claimed she only had two moves and she used them both and couldn’t compete in the another penalty shot…Maybe a little sibling rivalry as Winny (Brodt) Brown scored on a breakaway against Whitecaps teammate Kim Hanlon while sister Chelsey (Brodt) Rosenthal was throwing her stick at her…Jaimie Horton, was winded after her first couple shifts back, resulting from her not playing hockey much, however, that was probably most of the team.
