Gopher Women Receive NCAA Regional Berth

The NCAA today announced that the Minnesota women's golf team has received a berth into the NCAA Central Regional Golf Tournament to be played at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. on May 5-7. The Gophers are the 14th seed in the regional that will be hosted by the University of Notre Dame. UCLA, the top ranked team in the nation, is the top seed.
Minnesota will be taking part in the post-season for the first time since the 2001 team played in the NCAA's Central Regional. The Gophers have made a total of five NCAA appearances, including a 12th place finish at the 1989 NCAA Championships.
The Gophers are coming off a sixth place finish at the Big Ten Championships in Chicago. Illinois, its best conference finish since the 2001 championships. Minnesota, led by its senior foursome of Mary Narzisi (T-14th), Teresa Puga (T-21st), Samantha Sommers (T-23rd) and Michele Edlin (T-32nd), combined to shoot a 72-hole score of 1216, the second-lowest Big Ten Championships scorecard in the history of the program.
The Gophers will be joined by Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Indiana's Lindsay Gahm in the Central Regional. Purdue, the reigning National Champions and Michigan State, the Big Ten Champions, are seeded second and sixth, respectively, in the East Regional.
A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional. More information can be found here .
The championships finals will be held May 18-21 at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas and will be hosted by Texas A&M University, College Station.
