Constable and Van Rooyen Selected for NCAA's

The NCAA announced today that University of Minnesota senior Donald Constable and sophomore Erik Van Rooyen have been awarded two of 10 individual spots at one of six Men’s Regional Golf Tournaments, played May 19-21. The duo will represent the Gophers in the San Diego Regional at the Farms Golf Club in San Diego, Calif.
"Donald and Erik put together very consistent years with many top finishes," said Golden Gopher Associate Head Coach John Carlson. "We are proud of this accomplishment for them as a coaching staff and expect big things from both at regionals."
A native of Minnetonka, Minn., Constable led the Gophers in the fall and spring seasons in stroke average at 71.33 and 72.77, respectively. His combined stroke average of 72.12 this season is the fifth-lowest in the history of Minnesota golf and is his lowest in the two seasons he has been at the U. Constable's current career average of 73.0 is the third lowest in Gopher Golf history.
Constable finished the regular season having posted five top-10 and 10 top-20 finishes in 11 tournaments, including a runner-up finish at the Rod Myers Invitational in October.
Van Rooyen, a native of Oudtshoorn, South Africa, also appeared in 11 tournaments during the regular season, finishing with the team's second-lowest stroke average (72.28). His average this season is the 15th-lowest in the history of the program. He accumulated three top-five and eight top-20 finishes on the season.
Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. The finals will be conducted May 31-June 5, at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Oklahoma, hosted by Oklahoma State University.
