Constable and Van Rooyen Ready For NCAA Regionals

Due to their impressive respective bodies of work on the course this season, senior Donald Constable and sophomore Erik Van Rooyen will play in the NCAA Tournament as individuals at this week's San Diego Regional. Though the Gopher men's golf team failed to earn qualification to the event as a team, the their top two players will look to represent the team well out west.
Hosted by the University of San Diego, the regional will be played at the par 72, 6,974 yard Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Cali. from Thurs. May 20 to Sat. May 22. Golfers will play 18 holes each day, with the first two rounds starting at 8:00 a.m PT and final round at 7:30 a.m. PT.

A team captain and Second Team All-Big Ten selection, Constable has been the most consistent Minnesota golfer all season. The Wayzatta native and Texas transfer lead the Gophers in scoring average in both the spring and fall. With averages of 71.33 and 72.77 respectively, Constable's combined scoring average of 72.12 is the fifth lowest in program history. His two-year career average of 73.0 also puts him third all-time in Gopher golf history.
A native of South Africa, Van Rooyen has posted an impressive season as well. The sophomore's scoring average of 72.28 is second on the team behind Constable, good for the 15th lowest in program history. In addition, he has recorded three top- and eight top-20 finishes thus far this season.
Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. The finals will be conducted May 31-June 5, at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Oklahoma, hosted by Oklahoma State University.
