Gophers 18th After Round One at NCAA Championship

Playing in its first NCAA Championship round since 1989, the Minnesota women's golf team carded a team total of 305 to put itself in a tie for 18th place with 54 holes to play. Michele Edlin led the Gophers with an even par, 72 and currently sits in a tie for 10th overall.
Teresa Puga and Samantha Sommers both carded rounds of 77 and are tied for 75th position at the 24-team event in Tyler, Texas.
Mary Narzisi is in 98th following a 79, while Jackie Shepherd is tied for 122nd with an 84 in the opening 18 holes.
Central Regional champion UCLA occupies the top spot on th leaderboard at 289, leading second place Virginia by two strokes and defending national champion Purdue by three.
Minnesota will be back on the course at 8:00 a.m. CT for the second of four rounds.
