Both posting rounds of 74 in the final round on Sat., Minnesota men's golfers Donald Constable and Erik Van Rooyen finished in ties for 42nd and 51st overall at the NCAA West Regional in San Diego, Cal. The conclusion off event marks the end of the season for both golfers at the first stage of the NCAA Tournament.

Constable posted a two-over 38 over his first nine holes despite a triple bogey. The senior captain from Wayzatta would go even par over his remaining holes, ending his Gopher golf career with a birdie and a bogey for the two-over, 74. He finished the event at seven-over par.

After shooting a one-over 37 on his opening nine, Van Rooyen got back to even on his tenth hole. However, bogeys on two of his final three holes put the South African at two-over par and 11 over-par for the entire tournament.

A team captain and Second Team All-Big Ten selection, Constable will leave the program as one of best in recent memory. The Wayzatta native and Texas transfer lead the Gophers in scoring average in both the spring and fall. With averages of 71.33 and 72.77 respectively, Constable's combined scoring average of 72.12 is the fifth lowest in program history.  His two-year career average of 73.0 also puts him third all-time in Gopher golf history.

Just a sophomore this season, Van Rooyen's scoring average of 72.28 was second on the team behind Constable and good for the 15th lowest in program history. He also recorded three top- and eight top-20 finishes.  The second year player has a very bright future ahead of him and will continue to be a key figure on a young but experienced Minnesota golf team next year.

In the team portion of the tournament, UCLA took home medalist honors and will move on to the NCAA Championships along with USC, event host San Diego, Ohio State, Texas, SMU, Pacific and San Francisco. Patrick Cantlay of UCLA finished with the lowest individual score at 13 under-par, besting second place finishers Steve Lim of USC and Sand Diego's Manav Shah by six strokes.
