Gophers in Fourth at 24 Team NCAA Regional

In its first NCAA Tournament action in a decade, the University of Minnesota women's golf team sits in fourth place at the 24 team Central Regional after first  the round. The Gophers posted a team score of 301 and sit 10 strokes back of leader UCLA with 36 holes remaining at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana.

Samantha Sommers leads the team thus far after a one-over 73, putting her in a tie for 11th after the first round.

Michele Edlin in one back of Sommers in a tied for 14th after a round of 74, and Teresa Puga is tied for 26th following her 75.

Banchalee Theingthong carded a 79 and is currently tied for 67th , while Mary Narzisi shot an 82 and is tied for 104th overall.

The Gophers will be back on the course at 7:00 a.m CT tomorrow morning to continue play with the second round.

Minnesota needs to finish in the top eight when play concludes on Saturday in order to advance to the NCAA Championship in Bryan, Texas.
