Jamison Named Capital One Academic All-American

Senior swimmer Kaylee Jamison has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America University Division Women's At-Large First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). All student-athletes receiving this award are key contributors to their respective teams as well as exemplary performers in the classroom.
A team captain and five-time All-American, Jamison (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) is a biochemistry major with a 3.92 grade point average. She closed out her career by helping Minnesota to a school-best ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championships this past season. Jamison has two Big Ten titles on relays and own the school records in the 100-yard butterfly.
She was recently named Minnesota's female recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor, an award given to the top student-athletes at each conference university. She also received the 2011 Minnesota Athletics' Outstanding Achievement Award for academics, athletics, leadership and volunteerism. Jamison earned Academic All-Big Ten honors each of the past three years.
To be considered for the Capital One All-America Team, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, have reached at least sophomore academic standing at her current school, and be nominated by her sports information director. Of the 15 scholar-athletes on the University Division Women’s At-Large First Team this year, six of them have perfect 4.0 GPA's. Their average GPA. is 3.98.
The Women's At-Large program for Academic All-America includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, and water polo. In its overall program, CoSIDA has honored more than 14,000 student-athletes as Academic All-Americans since 1952.
