Gopher Relay Matches No. 2 Time in NCAA Debut

The Golden Gopher 4x100-meter relay of Todea-Kay Willis, Nyoka Giles, Chimerem Okoroji and Alena Brooks will go down as the first Minnesota 400-meter relay to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Championships kicked off with the first day of competition at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday.
The Gopher relay placed 21st in the national semifinal round clocking a season-best time of 44.85 seconds, matching the second-fastest time in Minnesota history in the event.
Willis also competed in the long jump placing 16th with a leap of 20 feet, 3 3/4 inches.
Nikki Tzanakis finished her Gopher throwing career by competing in her second consecutive NCAA Championships in the discus. Tzanakis landed a throw of 166-8 to finish 14th.
The NCAA Championships continues through Saturday.
