The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team ranked No. 2 in the nation in team grade-point average for the 2010-11 season. The Gophers put together a 3.335 GPA, finishing only behind Temple's 3.519.

"This is by far the best finish our program has had in the Team CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete championships and it just goes to show that our guys live the true definition of Student-Athlete," Minnesota head coach Mike Burns said. "While success in the gym is a huge part of why these guys are here at Minnesota they all understand the importance of the world class education they are receiving at the University of Minnesota, an education that will open many doors in the years to come in their lives."

The grade-point average rankings were released by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) recently. In addition, the CGA also honored their All-America Scholar-Athletes for this past season. There were 69 first-team All-American Scholar-Athletes announced, along with 63 second-teamers. To be on the first team, a student-athlete had to maintain a 3.50 grade-point average or above, while second-teamers had a GPA between 3.2-3.49.

The Gophers boast six members of the first team and six from the second team. Gophers on the first team were: DJ Repp, Jesse Moravec, Russell Dabritz, Travis Heaver, Michael Paulus and Justin Morinishi. Second-teamers for Minnesota included: Michael Hillin, Ross Cameratta, Josh Wokurka, Adam Kern, Matt Frey and Zack Chase.

"With six first-team All-America Scholar-Athletes and six second-teamers, I think it shows the academic caliber of the men's gymnastics team here at the University of Minnesota and will be an achievement this team can be proud of for many years," Burns added.
