Former Golden Gopher swimmer Jillian Tyler (Calgary, Alberta) finished seventh in the 100-meter breaststroke at the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China. She recorded a personal-best time of 1 minute, 7.64 seconds.

Tyler also swam for Canada in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, where she finished 12th in the 100 breast. More recently, she experienced success at the collegiate level, winning the 2011 NCAA title in the 100-yard breast. During her time as a Gopher (2007-11), Tyler earned 13 All-America awards, tying her for the Minnesota career record.

Tyler is scheduled to compete in the 50 breast. Preliminary heats take place July 30. Heats for the 4x100 medley relay are also Saturday. Since Tyler was Canada's top 100 breast competitor this week, it would not be surprising if she swam that leg of the race.
