The University of Minnesota Men's Golf program announced today that Minnesota native Kyle Beversdorf, a two-time all-state performer while attending Wayzata High School, will join the team after one season at Northern Iowa. Beversdorf will be eligible to compete during the 2012 fall season.

"Kyle has played at a very high level this summer, having qualified for both the U.S. Amateur Public Links and the U.S. Amateur, and we are excited to have him as a member of our Golden Gopher Golf program," said head coach John Carlson. "He brings a winning record, along with an exceptional work ethic to Minnesota that will help to make the rest of the team better each day."

Beversdorf, a three-time golf letterwinner and two-time team captain during his scholastic career, helped lead a Trojan team that won two Minnesota State Championships, two section championships and three Classic Lake Conference championships.

Beversdorf completed his only season at Northern Iowa with a stroke average of 74.67 in 11 tournaments. He fired a season-best round of two-under par 70 in the second round of the Oral Roberts Shootout in September, en route to a tie for a fifth place finish.

The 2011-12 season will get underway on Sept. 11-12 when the Gophers host 13 teams during the Gopher Invitational at Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata. Six of the 14 teams in the invitational finished last season ranked among the top 50 teams in the nation.
