Gophers Finish 17th in Redman's Debut

Head coach Michele Redman and assistant coach John Cleary now have their first tournament at Minnesota under their belts. The Golden Gophers finished the Cougar Classic tied with Penn State for 17th place. Banchalee Theinthong led the team with a combined score of 220 that earned her a tie for 38th place.
Theinthong completed round three in 72 strokes after posting a 74 in each of the first two rounds. Jackie Shepherd shot a 75 today after two scores of 77 in the first two days of the Classic. She finished in a tie for 77th at 229, as did Aubrie Nelson. Rounding out the squad, Sarinee Thitiratanakorn and Carmen Laguna tied for 98th with scores of 236.
Minnesota and Penn State (both with combined scores of 911) remained ahead of the other Big Ten team in the field, Wisconsin, which finished 20th with a score of 916. At the top of the leaderboard, LSU came into day three with a one-stroke lead and added to it to beat North Carolina by five strokes, with a score of 848.
For the second event of the Redman era, the Gophers will travel to Avon, Colo., for the Golfweek Conference Challenge that runs from Sept. 19 to Sept. 21.
