Complete Women's Gold Division I Results
Golden Gopher Senior All-American Stephanie Price finished fifth in the Griak Jack Johnson Women's Gold Race, pacing Minnesota to a fifth-place finish in an extremely deep and talented Division I field. Iowa State and Cal-Berkeley tied for first with a team total of 128 points. The Cyclones very crowned champions in the end based on their overall team performance.
Cal-Berkley senior Deborah Maier lead the pack to earn medalist honor, after crossing the finish line first with a time of 20:30.
Price was the only Gopher to finish in the top 25 as Minnesota scored 182 team points. Arizona took third with 131 points and Michigan State finished in fourth, with 148 points.
"They did a really good job," head coach Gary Wilson said. "There was a lot of good learning today. We beat Washington, Vanderbilt, Penn State and those are some good solid teams. I think this team will be ready to rock n' roll, in one month (Wisconsin Adidas Invite)."
Sophomore Ashlie Decker was the Gophers number two runner crossing in at 21:25 for a 31st place finish. Freshman Molly Kayfas was the Maroon and Gold's third runner at 39th (21:36), while Sophomores Laura Docherty took 52nd (21:46) and Missa Varpness came in at 55th with a time of 21:48.
The Gophers will be in action next weekend as they the squad will split in half. Some of the team will travel on Friday to Eau Claire Wisconsin to take part in the UW-Eau Claire Invite, while others will take part in the South Dakota Invite on Saturday.
