Sarah Erickson scored first in today's scrimmage, and scored in the shootout

Gold Defeats Maroon 3-2 in Intrasquad Exhibition

The University of Minnesota women's hockey team played its Maroon and Gold exhibition scrimmage at Ridder Arena today, with the Gold Team coming out on top 3-1.

For the Gold Team, Noora Raty was in goal with skaters Rachel Ramsey, Mira Jalosuo, Sarah Davis, Kelly Terry, Becky Kortum, Bethany Brausen, Emily West, Nikki Ludwigson, Meghan Lorence and Anne Schleper.

For the Maroon Team, Shyler Sletta was in goal and was joined by Kelly Seeler, Sam Downey, Sarah Erickson, Katie Frischmann, Amanda Kessel, Rachael Bona, Megan Bozek, Jen Schoullis, Baylee Gillanders, and Stephanie Anderson.

The Maroon Team scored first on a Sarah Erickson goal with an assist by Amanda Kessel. The goal came in the first period with both teams playing full strength at five-on-five.

Senior Anne Schleper put the Gold Team on the board, scoring on the power play with assists from freshman Rachel Ramsey and sophomore Sarah Davis. As the squad moved into four-on-four play, freshman Rachael Bona scored for the Gold Team. Juniors Mira Jalosuo and Becky Kortum were credited with the assists. After the teams moved back to even five-on-five play, Sarah Davis put the Gold Team up 3-1 with assists from sophomore Kelly Terry and senior Emily West.

Minnesota finished with a shootout to prepare for WCHA play. The Maroon team won the shootout point with goals from Erickson, Schoullis and Schleper. For the Gold team, West and Davis scored. The game finished at 3-2 in favor of the Gold Team.

Minnesota begins the regular season next weekend when Union, Syracuse and St. Cloud State come to town for the East/West Showcase. Minnesota plays Union at 7 p.m. on Friday before facing Syracuse at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
