Steak 'N Beans Game 2 Get Acrobat Reader

The Gold Team earned an 8-0 win to defeat the Maroon Team, Saturday, Sept. 24 at Siebert Field. With the win, the Steak 'N Beans fall series is even at 1-1 after the Maroon Team won the first game, 3-2.

The Gold Team had several key contributors in the win. Dan Olinger and Trip Schultz each had two RBI in the win, while four additional players had one. Kurt Schlangen had a team-best three hits, had an RBI, two runs in five at bats. He also had 10 putouts and two assists. Michael Handel had two hits, including a double, and two runs, while Ethan Liederman had an RBI and had two hits and two runs. David Bettenburg also had an RBI on one hit. The Gold Team also had steals from Schlangen, Handel, Olinger and Tatera.

Four Gold pitchers combined for the team shutout. Tom Windle started the game and pitched 2.2 innings. He faced 10 batters, allowed two hits and struckout three. Ben Meyer relieved Windle and pitched 2.1 innings and faced nine batter, stricking out four. Ty McDevitt saw his first Gopher action and pitched two scoreless innings, while Kyle O'Shea finished in the last two innings and struck out two of the eight batters he faced.

Although the Maroon Team didn't get any runs across, they saw contribution from a few individuals. Ryan Abrahamson had two hits, including a double, six putouts and two assists. Also earning a hit in the game was Andy Henkemeyer, Kyle Geason, Bobby Juan, Matt Halloran and Tony Skjefte. Juan, Halloran and Chris Schaaf all walked once during the game. The Maroon Team had four pitchers see action in the loss. DJ Snelten started the game and pitched two games. He face nine and allowed three runs, one of which was earned. Jordan Jess saw the most time between the two teams when he pitched three innings and faced 10 batters. He allowed one hit and struck out three. Lance Thonvold pitched two innings and didn't allow a run. Alex Tukey closed out the game for the Maroon Team and pitched 1.2 innings.

The next game in the Steak 'N Beans series will be on Friday, Sept. 30 at 3:45 p.m., while Parent's Day will be held at noon on Oct. 1. Both games will be played at Siebert Field and are free admission.
