Hassan Mead has been named the Big Ten Runner of the Week

Mead picks up Big Ten Runner of the Week Award

Senior All-American Hassan Mead picked up his fifth career Big Ten Runner of the Week Accolade. The Minneapolis, Minn., native finished third at this past weekend's 26th Roy Griak Invitational, to help his No. 20 Minnesota Golden Gophers to a third place overall finish.

Mead's third place finish was the third time in his Gopher career where he has placed in the top-five at the Griak. He won the Griak in 2009 and finished second in 2008. Mead covered the 8,000-meter course in 23:49.

This is the second time this season that a Gopher has picked up the award. Pieter Gagnon won the award early this month with his performance at the Hornet Jamboree.
