Gophers Kickoff Fall Schedule Hosting St. Cloud State

The University of Minnesota softball team competes in its first-of-two fall doubleheaders on Friday as it welcomes St. Cloud State to Jane Sage Cowles Stadium. The Golden Gophers are coming off a 2011 campaign where they went 31-24 overall and 9-11 in Big Ten play under the direction of first-year head coach Jessica Allister.
The Gophers return 10 players from last year's team that garnered 30 wins for the first time since 2004. Leading the crowd of returnees is sophomore pitcher Sara Moulton, who tallied a Minnesota single season record 28 wins en route to being named second team All-Big Ten and Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
Friday's doubleheader will be Coach Allister's first in-game look at eight newcomers that have joined the Golden Gophers for the 2011-12 season. Included in the Gophers' eight new additions is the lone transfer Ally Koski. The junior transfer comes to Minnesota from St. Cloud State where she led the Huskies in home runs for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Ironically, her first time wearing the Maroon and Gold will be against her former team that went 25-26 last year.
First pitch for Friday night's doubleheader against the Huskies is scheduled for 5 p.m. with the second game set for a 7 p.m. start.
